Parthenocarpy = fruit development without fertilisation, giving rise to seedless fruits.

Normally, after pollination and double fertilisation, the ovary develops into a fruit and the ovules develop into seeds. However, in some plants fruit development can occur even without fertilisation taking place; such fruits, since no zygote/embryo forms, remain seedless. This phenomenon is called parthenocarpy.
