Each compound is an aldehyde, so -CHO is the principal group and gets locant 1 (or is named as carbaldehyde on a ring). The names are: (i) 3-phenylprop-2-enal,

(ii) cyclohexanecarbaldehyde,

(iii) 3-oxopentanal,

(iv) but-2-enal.

(i) C6H5-CH=CH-CHO

The main chain is the three-carbon prop-enal: CHO (C1), CH (C2) = CH (C3), with a phenyl on C3. The double bond is between C2 and C3.

Name: 3-phenylprop-2-enal (common name cinnamaldehyde).

(ii) cyclohexane with one -CHO

When -CHO is attached to a ring, it is named as a carbaldehyde.
