The SELECT statement reads data from a table. Three things are needed here:

  1. Choosing columns: because only Name and Marks are wanted (not every column), we name those two columns after SELECT instead of using *.
  2. Filtering rows: we add a WHERE clause. There are two conditions — the class must be XI-A, and the marks must be greater than 75.
  3. Combining conditions: because both must be true, we join them with the logical operator AND. The comparison Marks > 75 uses the greater-than operator, and the text value 'XI-A' is written in single quotes.
