The law of supply states that, ceteris paribus, quantity supplied rises as price rises — shown by a rising supply schedule and an upward-sloping supply curve.

Statement of the law:

The law of supply states that, OTHER THINGS REMAINING CONSTANT (ceteris paribus — cost of production, technology, prices of other goods, government policy, etc. unchanged), the quantity supplied of a commodity is DIRECTLY/POSITIVELY related to its own price. As the price of the commodity rises, sellers are willing to supply a larger quantity (because production becomes more profitable); as price falls, they supply less.

Supply schedule (illustrative):

Price (₹ per unit)Quantity Supplied (units)
1020
2040
3060
4080

As the table shows, every rise in price is accompanied by a rise in the quantity the seller is willing to supply — a direct relationship.
