If the law relied solely on the full prospectus to protect investors, this practical reality would leave a large number of applicants effectively uninformed at the moment they actually commit their money.
To close this gap, the Companies Act, 2013 defines an abridged prospectus (Section 2(1)) as a memorandum containing the salient features of a full prospectus, prescribed in a standard format so that key facts - the company's objects, the terms of the issue, risk factors, and financial highlights - are presented briefly and consistently across different issues, making them easy to compare. …
