Meaning of recruitment:
Recruitment is the process of identifying the sources of manpower and attracting a sufficient number of suitable candidates to apply for the vacant positions in the organisation. It is a positive process that creates a pool of applicants from which selection can later be made. It links the need for manpower with the available supply of candidates.
Internal sources of recruitment (filling vacancies from within the organisation):
- Promotion — raising an existing employee to a higher post with more responsibility, authority and pay. It rewards good performance and motivates employees.
- Transfer — shifting an employee from one job, department or place to another of roughly the same rank and pay to fill a vacancy and use his abilities better.
- Recall of former employees / retired or laid-off staff — bringing back experienced ex-employees when needed.
