Meaning of recruitment: Recruitment is the process of identifying the sources of prospective employees, searching for them and stimulating (encouraging) them to apply for jobs in the organisation. It creates a pool of applicants from which selection can be made. It is a positive process that increases the number of applicants.
Internal sources of recruitment (filling vacancies from persons already within the organisation):
- Promotion — moving an existing employee to a higher post with more pay, status and responsibility. It rewards and motivates employees, uses proven talent and boosts morale and loyalty.
- Transfer — shifting an employee from one job, department or branch to another of the same rank to fill a vacancy. It helps place the right person where needed and adjust the workforce without increasing numbers.
- Re-employment of former/retired employees — recalling ex-employees or experienced retired staff (often on contract) for vacancies, as they already know the organisation's working.
- Internal advertisement / recommendation by present employees — notifying vacancies within the organisation (notice board, intranet) and inviting present employees to apply or recommend suitable candidates. …
