On reflection, light stays in the same medium (air), so its wavelength, frequency and speed are all unchanged; on refraction into water, the frequency stays the same (set by the source) but the speed decreases (v = c/n) and the wavelength shortens proportionally.

Given: lambda_air = 589 nm = 589 x 10^-9 m, c = 3 x 10^8 m/s, refractive index of water n = 1.33.

Frequency of the incident light (unchanged by reflection or refraction - frequency is fixed by the source):

nu = c / lambda_air = (3 x 10^8) / (589 x 10^-9) = 5.09 x 10^14 Hz

(a) Reflected light: Reflection keeps the light in the same medium (air), so nothing about the wave changes:

Wavelength = 589 nm, frequency = 5.09 x 10^14 Hz, speed = 3 x 10^8 m/s.
