A somatotype describes body build; the three Sheldon types are Endomorph (round/fatty), Mesomorph (muscular) and Ectomorph (lean/linear).

What a somatotype is. A somatotype is a system of classifying the human physique or body build according to its shape and composition. Proposed by William Sheldon, it rates every person on three components, each present in some degree.

The three types:

  1. Endomorph — soft and rounded, with a higher proportion of body fat, wide hips and trunk, and a tendency to gain weight.
  2. Mesomorph — hard and muscular, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, low body fat and an athletic, strong frame.
