Aerenchyma is a specialised form of parenchyma tissue with large, interconnected air spaces (lacunae) between its cells, found in the stems, petioles, and roots of hydrophytes.

Parenchyma is the simple, living, thin-walled ground tissue that fills much of a plant body and performs functions like storage and photosynthesis.
