Dialysing fluid is identical to normal blood plasma in composition, except that it lacks nitrogenous waste products, so that these wastes diffuse out of the blood.

In haemodialysis, used for patients with kidney (renal) failure, blood is circulated through a dialysing machine containing an artificial dialysing fluid.
