Molar enthalpy of fusion is a melting-point heat quantity, Hess's Law is a path-independence rule for reaction enthalpies, and entropy is a measure of disorder.

(i) Molar enthalpy of fusion (ΔHfus∘\Delta H_{fus}^{\circ}): the amount of heat energy required to convert 1 mole of a solid substance completely into liquid at its melting point, at constant (usually standard) pressure. It is always positive (endothermic), since energy must be supplied to overcome the intermolecular forces holding the solid lattice together.

(ii) Hess's Law: states that the total enthalpy change for a chemical reaction is the same whether the reaction occurs in a single step or via multiple intermediate steps, as long as the initial and final states are the same. This follows because enthalpy is a state function — it depends only on the initial and final states, not the path taken. It allows enthalpy changes of reactions that are hard to measure directly to be calculated by adding/subtracting the enthalpies of related reactions.
