Q.In a factory chairs are manufactured. The cost function is given by c(x) = 20x + 4000 and received revenue R(x) from sale is R(x) = 60x + 2000, where x is the number of chairs produced. On the basis of these informations answer the following questions:

Set up the profit condition as an inequality between revenue and cost, then solve for xx.

Given c(x)=20x+4000c(x)=20x+4000 and R(x)=60x+2000R(x)=60x+2000.

(i) Chairs needed to make some profit:

Profit occurs when R(x)>c(x)R(x) > c(x):

60x+2000>20x+400060x+2000 > 20x+4000

40x>200040x > 2000

x>50x > 50

Since xx must be a whole number of chairs and x=50x=50 only breaks even (no profit), at least 51\mathbf{51} chairs must be produced.

(ii) Chairs needed for profit ≥\ge ₹10,000:
