Supplementary (fixed) costs stay constant at all output levels; the TFC curve is horizontal.

Meaning: Supplementary costs (also called fixed costs, overhead costs or indirect costs) are those costs of production that do not vary with the level of output. They are incurred on fixed factors and must be paid even when output is zero — e.g. rent of building, insurance premium, interest on fixed capital, salaries of permanent staff, licence fees.

Schedule (table):

  • Output 0, Total Fixed Cost 60
  • Output 1, Total Fixed Cost 60
  • Output 2, Total Fixed Cost 60
  • Output 3, Total Fixed Cost 60
  • Output 4, Total Fixed Cost 60 …
