Morphology of Frog
Frogs (e.g. Rana tigrina) are cold-blooded (poikilothermic/ectothermic), amphibious vertebrates capable of living both on land and in water.
- Body divisions: the body is divided into just two regions — a head and a trunk — there is no distinct neck and no externally visible tail (adults are tailless, Anura).
- Skin: the skin is smooth, slimy and moist, kept so by mucus secreted from numerous skin glands; it is permeable and assists in cutaneous respiration, especially underwater. Skin colour can change (dark on the dorsal side, pale on the ventral side) for camouflage.
- Head: bears a pair of external nostrils near the tip of the snout for breathing, a pair of large, bulging eyes (each with movable eyelids and a nictitating membrane) adapted for wide-angle vision, and a pair of tympanic membranes (ear drums) located just behind the eyes for hearing.
