The staffing process is the set of linked steps a manager follows to ensure

the organisation has the right people, in the right number, with the right skills, at

the right positions, at all times — from estimating manpower needs through to

compensating and developing employees.

Elements of the Staffing Process

  1. Estimating manpower requirements — human resource planning that forecasts the number and type of people needed, and conducts a workload/workforce analysis.
  2. Recruitment — searching for prospective employees and encouraging them to apply for jobs, drawing from internal sources (transfers, promotions) and external sources (advertisements, placement agencies, campus recruitment).
