Causative agent: Filariasis is caused by slender, thread-like filarial (nematode) worms — chiefly Wuchereria bancrofti (and the related Wuchereria malayi). These parasitic worms are transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person through the bite of the female Culex mosquito (vector), which is why filariasis is also called a mosquito-borne disease.
Symptoms: The worms lodge and live in the human lymphatic vessels/lymph nodes, especially of the lower limbs, causing:
