The Lorenz curve is used to measure and compare inequality in a distribution graphically.

The Lorenz curve plots the cumulative percentage of a variable (say income) against the cumulative percentage of the population. The straight diagonal is the line of equal distribution; the more the Lorenz curve bulges away from this line, the greater the inequality.
