'On the Origin of Species' (1859), which introduced the theory of evolution by natural selection, was written by Charles Darwin.

Charles Darwin, after his voyage on HMS Beagle and years of observation and study (including of finches on the Galapagos Islands), published 'On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection' in 1859. In it he proposed that species evolve over generations through the process of natural selection acting on heritable variations, driven partly by the struggle for existence — an idea influenced by Thomas Malthus's essay on population.
