This is a discrete frequency series. Build a cumulative-frequency column, locate the (N+1)/2=10.5(N+1)/2 = 10.5th item, and read off the corresponding income. It falls against Rs 30, so the median income is Rs 30.

Concept

For a discrete series the median is the size of the (N+12)th\left(\dfrac{N+1}{2}\right)^{th} item, found using a cumulative-frequency (c.f.) column.
