Classification is the arrangement of raw data into groups having common features; its four bases are chronological, spatial, qualitative and quantitative.

Raw collected data is a disorganised mass of figures. Classification is the process of arranging this data into groups or classes according to common characteristics, so it becomes clear and easy to analyse. This 4-mark note comes from Organisation of Data in Karnataka 1st PUC Economics.

The main bases (types) of classification are:
