Classification arranges raw data into homogeneous groups by common features; the four bases are chronological, spatial, qualitative and quantitative.

In the Karnataka 1st PUC Statistics for Economics course, classification of data means arranging the collected raw data into groups or classes on the basis of common characteristics, so that similar items are placed together. It turns a confused mass of figures into an orderly, comparable form ready for analysis.
