An isoquant joins input combinations that yield the same output; it is downward-sloping and convex.

An isoquant is the producer's counterpart of the consumer's indifference curve. Described in words, imagine a table where each row gives a combination of labour and capital that produces, say, 100 units of output. Plotting labour on the x-axis and capital on the y-axis, joining these points gives a smooth curve — the isoquant.
