An isoquant (iso-product curve) shows all input combinations giving the same output; it is downward sloping and convex to the origin. Described in words below.

An isoquant (also called an iso-product or equal-product curve) is a curve that shows all the different combinations of two factors of production — for example labour (L) and capital (K) — which yield the same level of output.

Description of the diagram (in words): measure labour on the horizontal (X) axis and capital on the vertical (Y) axis. An isoquant is a smooth curve sloping downward from left to right; every point on it (e.g. much capital with little labour, or much labour with little capital) produces the same quantity, say 100 units. A higher isoquant lying farther from the origin represents a larger output.
