The Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility states that as more units of a good are consumed, marginal utility falls; the schedule shows MU declining unit by unit and the MU curve slopes downward, becoming zero at maximum total utility and negative beyond it.

Statement of the law: As a consumer consumes more and more units of a commodity, the additional (marginal) utility derived from each successive unit goes on diminishing, other things remaining constant. This happens because a want gets progressively satisfied as more units are consumed.

Table (utility schedule): Suppose a person consumes units of a good and derives utility as below.
