Tropics are richest in species because of long undisturbed evolutionary time, a constant/less-seasonal climate, and higher solar energy (productivity).

Concept: Species diversity generally decreases as we move away from the equator towards the poles — the tropics (latitudinal range near the equator) harbour far more species than temperate or polar regions. Several hypotheses explain this.
