The induced current opposes the flux change, so external work must be done against it; that work becomes the electrical energy — exactly what conservation of energy requires.

Lenz's law: the direction of the induced current (or emf) is always such that it opposes the change in magnetic flux that produces it.

Consider pushing the north pole of a bar magnet towards a coil. By Lenz's law the induced current flows so as to make the near face of the coil a north pole, which repels the approaching magnet. Therefore an external agent must do work against this repulsion to keep pushing the magnet in. This mechanical work is exactly what appears as the electrical energy (and heat) of the induced current — energy is conserved: mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy. …
