Net purchases = 1,45,800 − 4,100 = 1,41,700; net sales = 2,23,500 − 8,400 = 2,15,100. Trading A/c: (opening stock 12,800 + net purchases 1,41,700 + wages 35,000) against (net sales 2,15,100 + closing stock 14,200) → Gross Profit ₹39,800. P&L A/c: from GP 39,800 + discount received 800, deduct salary 11,000 (incl. ₹1,000 outstanding), bad debts 1,000, new provision for doubtful debts 1,000, insurance 5,800 (net of ₹2,500 prepaid) and depreciation on land & building 2,250 → Net Profit ₹19,550.

Working notes (adjustments)

  • (a) Salary: 10,000 + outstanding 1,000 = 11,000 charged to P&L.
  • (b) Provision for doubtful debts = 5% × 20,000 = 1,000.
  • (c) Insurance: 8,300 − prepaid 2,500 = 5,800 charged to P&L.
  • (d) Depreciation on Land & Building = 5% × 45,000 = 2,250.
  • (e) Closing stock 14,200 (Trading A/c credit).
  • Discount ₹800 appears on the credit side of the trial balance → discount received (income) in P&L.
