Middle level management: interprets top-level policies, prepares departmental plans, recruits and trains departmental staff, and coordinates with other departments while motivating lower levels.

This four-mark question is from 'Nature and Significance of Management' in the Kerala Plus Two (DHSE) Commerce syllabus. Middle level management comprises departmental heads, divisional heads, plant superintendents and branch managers, who form the link between the top and lower levels. Any four of their functions are:

  2. Preparing departmental plans and organising work — They prepare organisational plans for their respective departments and arrange the resources needed to execute the policies of top management.

  3. Recruiting and training employees — They are responsible for recruiting, selecting and training the required number of employees for their department.
