The statement "Planning does not guarantee success" is correct. Planning is only the intellectual exercise of thinking before doing; the actual result depends on execution and on future conditions that a manager cannot fully control. Because plans are built on assumptions about an uncertain future, they carry the following demerits (any four required):
- Planning leads to rigidity. Once a plan is drawn up, managers may be forced to follow it strictly even when conditions change. This inflexibility can prevent the firm from responding to new opportunities.
- Planning may not work in a dynamic environment. The business environment is constantly changing — economic, political, technological and market conditions shift. A plan made under one set of conditions can become useless when the environment turns out differently.
