Porifera (sponges) are pore-bearing, mostly marine, sessile animals with a cellular level of organisation, a spicule/spongin skeleton, and choanocyte-driven water circulation.

Phylum Porifera, commonly known as sponges, includes some of the simplest multicellular animals, mostly found attached to rocks in marine (a few in freshwater) habitats. Their key characteristics include:

Numerous minute pores (ostia) perforate the body wall, allowing water to be drawn into a central spongocoel/canal system and then expelled through a large opening called the osculum - this water-current system is central to their feeding, respiration and waste removal (hence the name pore-bearers).
