Work-energy theorem: W_net = ΔKE = (1/2)mv^2 - (1/2)mu^2. Proved below for a constant force using v^2 = u^2 + 2as.

Statement: The work-energy theorem states that the total work done by the net force acting on a body is equal to the change produced in its kinetic energy.

Proof for a constant force:

Consider a body of mass m moving with initial velocity u. A constant force F acts on it, producing a constant acceleration a = F/m, and after covering a displacement s, its velocity becomes v.

From the kinematic equation for uniformly accelerated motion:

v^2 = u^2 + 2as

=> as = (v^2 - u^2)/2

Work done by the force over displacement s:

W = F.s = (ma).s = m(as) = m x (v^2 - u^2)/2

=> W = (1/2)mv^2 - (1/2)mu^2
