Information Technology · Ch 3 — Impressive Web Designing

Overview

Overview

Impressive Web Designing is a chapter of the Maharashtra State Board (MSBSHSE) Higher Secondary Information Technology syllabus, studied as a skills-based elective in the Std XI Commerce stream. Almost every business, government office, school, and shop today has a presence on the internet in the form of a website — a collection of related web pages that a visitor can open in a web browser. This chapter is about how those pages are actually built and made to look good, so that a student can create a simple, neat, and readable web page of their own.

The chapter is practical rather than theoretical. It introduces the two languages that together create the look of almost every web page: HTML (HyperText Markup Language), which supplies the structure and content of a page (its headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, links, images, and forms), and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), which supplies the style and appearance of a page (its colours, fonts, spacing, and layout). Along the way it covers the common HTML tags a beginner needs, how to add lists, links, images, tables, and forms, how to apply CSS in three different ways, and finally the principles of good web design that separate a clear, usable page from a cluttered one.

Maharashtra's HSC Information Technology syllabus for this topic draws on the same widely used, open web-technology standards (HTML and CSS) that are taught in computer and information-technology education across India and worldwide, even though the Maharashtra State Board develops and sequences them in its own way. We begin with the basic idea of a website and how a web page is built, then work through HTML structure and tags, styling with CSS, and the design principles that make a page genuinely impressive.
