Heat Equation

Combining the ideas of mass, specific heat and temperature change into a single working formula gives the general HEAT EQUATION:

Q=m×ΔT×s— (7.28)Q = m \times \Delta T \times s \quad \text{--- (7.28)}

i.e., heat received or given out equals mass times temperature change times specific heat capacity. For example, if a substance has s=1000 J/kg °Cs = 1000\text{ J/kg °C}, then 1000 J raises 1 kg of it by 1 °C, and equivalently 6000 J would raise 2 kg by 3 °C (or, by the same equation run in reverse, 2 kg cooling by 3 °C releases 6000 J). This single …

Misc Ex.13Heat received by a 4 kg mass on a 10°C rise

Worked out. A 4 kg mass of material with specific heat capacity 300 J/kg °C has its temperature raised from 20 °C to 30 °C; substituting directly into the heat equation Q = m x deltaT x s with m=4 kg, deltaT=(30-20)=10 °C and s=300 J/kg°C, the example computes Q = 4x10x300 = 12000 J of heat received by the materia …
