Systema Naturae was published by Carl Linnaeus, the father of modern taxonomy.

Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778), a Swedish naturalist, published Systema Naturae in 1735. In it he proposed a hierarchical system of classification (kingdom, class, order, genus, species) and later formalised binomial nomenclature (Species Plantarum, 1753), giving every organism a two-part Latin name (genus + species). This system, with modifications, is still the basis of taxonomy today.
