Pro-rata allotment (ratio 5:6) means Arun gets 500 of his 600 applied shares; after he defaults on allotment and call money, his shares are forfeited and later reissued at a premium, with the full forfeited amount moving to Capital Reserve.

Step 1 — Pro-rata allotment:

Shares offered = 50,000; valid applications (after rejecting 15,000) = 60,000; pro-rata ratio = 50,000 : 60,000 = 5 : 6

Arun applied for 600 shares → allotted = 600 × 5/6 = 500 shares

Step 2 — Excess application money adjusted to allotment:

Application money paid by Arun = 600 × ₹3 = ₹1,800

Application money required for 500 allotted shares = 500 × ₹3 = ₹1,500

Excess (adjusted towards allotment) = ₹1,800 − ₹1,500 = ₹300

Allotment due = 500 × ₹4 = ₹2,000; less excess adjusted ₹300 = Net amount due = ₹1,700, which Arun failed to pay (along with the call).

Call due = 500 × ₹3 = ₹1,500, also unpaid.

Step 3 — Journal entries (for the whole company, 50,000 shares):

  1. Bank A/c Dr. ₹2,25,000 (75,000 × ₹3) / To Share Application A/c ₹2,25,000
  2. Share Application A/c Dr. ₹2,25,000 / To Share Capital A/c ₹1,50,000 (50,000 × ₹3), To Share Allotment A/c ₹30,000 (excess adjusted), To Bank A/c ₹45,000 (refund for 15,000 rejected)
  3. Share Allotment A/c Dr. ₹2,00,000 (50,000 × ₹4) / To Share Capital A/c ₹2,00,000
  4. Bank A/c Dr. ₹1,68,300; Calls-in-Arrears A/c Dr. ₹1,700 / To Share Allotment A/c ₹1,70,000
  5. Share First and Final Call A/c Dr. ₹1,50,000 (50,000 × ₹3) / To Share Capital A/c ₹1,50,000
  6. Bank A/c Dr. ₹1,48,500 / To Share First and Final Call A/c ₹1,48,500 Step 4 — Forfeiture of Arun's 500 shares (₹10 called-up fully): Share Capital A/c Dr. ₹5,000 (500 × ₹10) To Share Forfeited A/c ₹1,800 (amount received) To Calls-in-Arrears A/c (Allotment) ₹1,700 …
