(a) The company can only issue what was actually subscribed (90,000 shares, not the originally offered 1,00,000); (b) Common Size statements convert every Balance Sheet figure into a % of the Balance Sheet total, to allow easy comparison across years.

Part (a): XYZ Ltd's Authorised Capital is Rs. 20,00,000 (2,00,000 equity shares of Rs. 10 each). The company offered 1,00,000 shares, payable Rs. 7 on Application & Allotment and Rs. 3 on First & Final Call (total Rs. 10 = full face value). The public applied for only 90,000 shares — this is an UNDER-subscription, so only 90,000 shares are actually allotted, issued, and (since all money was duly received) fully paid up.

Balance Sheet extract (as at 31st March, 2024):

I. EQUITY AND LIABILITIES — Shareholders' Funds — Share Capital: Rs. 9,00,000 (see Note 1)

Note 1 — Share Capital:

Authorised Capital: 2,00,000 Equity Shares of Rs. 10 each = Rs. 20,00,000

Issued Capital: 90,000 Equity Shares of Rs. 10 each = Rs. 9,00,000

Subscribed Capital: Subscribed and fully paid-up — 90,000 Equity Shares of Rs. 10 each, fully called and paid = Rs. 9,00,000

Total = Rs. 9,00,000

Part (b): Common Size Balance Sheet of SWIGGY Ltd (each item ÷ Balance Sheet Total × 100):

Balance Sheet Total: 2023 = Rs. 7,00,000; 2024 = Rs. 9,00,000.

EQUITY AND LIABILITIES:

  • Share Capital: 2023 = 4,00,000 → 4,00,000/7,00,000×100 = 57.14%; 2024 = 5,00,000 → 5,00,000/9,00,000×100 = 55.56%
  • Long-term Borrowings: 2023 = 3,00,000 → 42.86%; 2024 = 4,00,000 → 44.44%
  • Total: 100% both years

ASSETS:

  • Fixed Assets: 2023 = 5,00,000 → 71.43%; 2024 = 8,00,000 → 88.89% …
