Habitat: The specific physical/geographical area or environment where an organism naturally lives, characterised by its particular abiotic (temperature, rainfall, soil) and biotic conditions, providing all that the organism needs — food, shelter, and mates. Example: a pond is the habitat of a fish.
Micro-habitat: A smaller, more specific and localised part within a larger habitat, offering particular conditions suited to a species or life stage. Example: the underside of a rock in a stream, or the leaf litter within a forest, are micro-habitats within the broader forest/stream habitat.
