Habitat refers to the specific physical location or environment — with its characteristic abiotic and biotic features (climate, soil, vegetation type, associated species) — that an organism occupies and calls home; it can be thought of as the organism's "address." Niche, by contrast, is a much broader, multidimensional concept describing the organism's functional role within its habitat and community: its feeding habits and trophic position, the resources it uses, its activity pattern (e.g. diurnal/nocturnal), its reproductive behaviour, and its relationships (competition, predation, etc.) with other species — essentially, its "occupation" or way of life.
