Frequency Array
Everything so far grouped a continuous variable into class intervals. For a discrete variable the corresponding arrangement is a frequency array. Because a discrete variable takes only whole (integral) values and none of the fractions between them, there is no need for class intervals — a frequency is attached directly to each individual value.
For example, the size of households (a discrete variable, since a household has a whole number of members):
