Endomembrane System
8.5.3
Endomembrane System
Several of the membrane-bound organelles inside a eukaryotic cell each have their own particular structure and job. Even so, a number of them are grouped and studied together under a single heading called the endomembrane system, and the reason for grouping them is that their activities are coordinated with one another.
Which organelles belong to it
The endomembrane system is made up of the following members, whose functions work in a linked, cooperative way:
- The endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
- The Golgi complex
- The lysosomes
- The vacuoles
