Procedure (3-site method):
- Choose three standard sites — a common set is chest, abdomen and thigh for males, and triceps, suprailiac and thigh for females (measured on the right side of the body).
- Firmly grasp a fold of skin plus the underlying fat between thumb and forefinger, lifting it away from the muscle.
- Apply the caliper about 1 cm below the fingers, wait 1–2 seconds, and read the thickness in millimetres.
