Blood pressure is the force of blood against the artery walls - it rises during a single exercise bout, but training lowers it at rest over time.

Blood pressure, in general physiology, is the force exerted by circulating blood on the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps. Section 7.3.1 explains its short-term response: "Endurance exercise leads to increase in systolic blood pressure which is in direct proportion to the increase in exercise intensity. The increased systolic blood pressure is because of the increased cardiac output that accompanies increasing rates of work. With most types of training there is minimal change in diastolic blood pressure." So during exercise, the "top number" (systolic) climbs with effort, while the "bottom number" (diastolic) stays nearly steady. …
