BMR assessment reuses the BMI test's height/weight measurement procedure, then plugs those numbers (plus age and sex) into the Mifflin-St Jeor equation.

The chapter states the procedure directly: 'method to measure height and weight is given at BMI' — i.e., the same stadiometer/wall-measurement technique for height and digital-scale technique for weight used in section 6.1.1 applies here unchanged. Equipment needed is simply a stadiometer, a weight machine, and pen and paper to record the calculation.

Once height, weight and age are known, the Mifflin-St Jeor BMR Equation is applied:

  • Male: (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) − (5 × age) + 5
  • Female: (10 × body weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) − (5 × age) − 161 …
