Sales Return Book (Returns Inward Book)

Goods sold on credit that are returned by a customer — for being defective, wrong, or excess — are recorded in the Sales Return Book (also called the Returns Inward Book). The source document here is the Credit Note, sent by the seller to the customer, stating that the customer's account has been credited (i.e., the amount the customer owes has been reduced) by the value of goods returned.
