Khelo India

The Khelo India programme was introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grassroots level - by building a strong framework for every sport played in the country and establishing India as a great sporting nation.

Why Khelo India was needed

Participation in sport is a crucial part of a nation's development. India has made steady progress in international sport even though only about 5% of its population takes part in games and sports. If that participation were increased, the results could be very different. To inspire young talent and give it world-class infrastructure and training, the "Khelo India National Programme for Development of Sports" was launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in the financial year 2017-2018.
