Evaluation
This unit's evaluation set, taken directly from the textbook, has two parts. The multiple-choice section (17 questions) covers atmospheric-layer altitude, the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, carboxyhaemoglobin formation, the GWP sequence of greenhouse gases, photochemical-smog composition, the pH of normal rain water, the consequences of ozone depletion, BOD, catalytic convertors, two List-I/List-II matching questions (pollution phenomenon to its main causal chemical), and three assertion-reason questions on BOD, chlorinated pesticides and the troposphere's role in supporting life. The brief-answer section (19 questions) covers: causes of reduced dissolved oxygen; a world without greenhouse gases; the definition of smog; earth's UV shield and why; degradable versus non-degradable pollutants; the source of ozone in photochemical smog; a laxative effect traced to sulphate-rich groundwater; the definition of green chemistry; how the greenhouse effect drives global warming; BIS drinking-water standards; classical versus photochemical smog; particulate pollutants (any three); the function and adverse effects of pesticides; the dangers of CO and CO₂ from ethane combustion; the chemistry of CFC-driven ozone depl …
