- Melting and boiling points: among the monohalobenzenes (all liquids at room temperature), boiling point follows iodo > bromo > chloro. Isomeric dihalobenzenes boil at nearly the same temperature, but the para isomer's melting point is markedly higher than the ortho or meta isomer's, because the para isomer's symmetry lets its molecules pack more closely in the crystal lattice, so more energy (a stronger intermolecular attractive force) is needed to melt it: p-dihalobenzene > o-dichlorobenzene > m-dichlorobenzene. 2.
