Why Entrepreneurs Are Classified
An entrepreneur is a person who identifies a business opportunity, organises resources, and takes the risk of running an enterprise for a return.
Classification on the Basis of Type of Business
The most commonly used classification groups entrepreneurs by the nature of the economic activity their enterprise performs.
Classification on the Basis of Use of Technology
This basis looks at where the entrepreneur's personal strength and attention lie — in the technical/production side of the business or in its marketing and distribution.
Classification on the Basis of Motivation
This basis classifies entrepreneurs according to what actually drove them to start the enterprise in the first place.
Classification on the Basis of Growth and Stage of Development
Two related but distinct ideas are grouped here: how fast an enterprise grows, and how willing the entrepreneur is to innovate or change.
Classification on the Basis of Area and Special Categories
The remaining classifications look at the entrepreneur's location, ownership pattern, or a distinct social/economic identity.
