Q.What is statistics ?

Statistics is both a body of numerical data and the science of collecting, analysing and interpreting such data for decision-making.

The word statistics is used in two senses:

• Plural sense — it means numerical facts or data (e.g., statistics of population, prices, production).
• Singular sense — it means the science (methods) of collecting, classifying, presenting, analysing and interpreting numerical data.

A widely quoted definition (Croxton and Cowden) is: "Statistics is the science of collection, presentation, analysis and interpretation of numerical data." It thus covers the whole process from gathering raw figures to drawing valid conclusions.
